The Banmas winter festival has begun!

Our annual winter festival, Banmas, has begun! This is our biggest Banmas festival yet, with all new events, and returning favourites.

As usual, all events are hosted by Kyle, out of the Banmas Hub at Necrowolf Manor. The hub has been decorated, as well as spawn, and the mall! Warp to the hub by talking to the NPCs at spawn, or by typing /Banmas.

Banmas 2017 Events

Advent Calendar: Every day, a new gift will be available at Necrowolf Manor! Head up the stairs and collect your daily gift!

Elytra Skiing Challenge: Can you master Elytra flight as you descend from a mountain? If you are successful, you get to keep the Elytra! Type /skiing to go to this event.

Writing Contest: The Writing Contest is back! Write a Banmas/holiday/winter-themed story, poem, or song (even a parody!), and drop it off at Necrowolf Manor. The best entries will be published and writers will be rewarded!

Building Contest: We are doing a Building Contest! Build any sort of Banmas/holiday/winter-themed structure or artwork, and show it to an online admin. You can build anything you want, anywhere in Wolfia! The best builders will receive rewards!

Scavenger Hunt: Our most popular event, the Scavenger Hunt, is back! Find chests marked with spruce trees, and collect the Banmas Cookies! Cookies can be redeemed for prizes at the end of the month.

Winter Arena: We are considering hosting an arena battle! If you are interested, tell an admin.

Fall 2017 Updates

Been a while since I’ve done a blog post here! Here’s what we’ve been working on recently…

City of Aberdeen, Eborin

Our custom roleplaying plugin, RealmsCore, has received a variety of new features! For those who are not aware, a realm represents a nation or faction in the world of Wolfia.

You can now send messages to other members of your realm with /msg realm <message…>

Realm leaders, you’re now in control! Invite and kick people from your realm, change the colour, tagline, and name of your realm, and assign titles to players.
If you have sub-realms under your rule, you can do all of this stuff to that realm too.
/realm <realm name> <invite/kick/addofficer/removeofficer> <players…>
/realm <realm name> set <color/fullname/tagline> <new data…>
/realm <realm name> title <player> <new title…>

I’m still working on a system for creating new realms. Until then, you can let me know in-game if you’d like to start your own realm.

Researcher at the Aunix temple

The next big plugin… RealmsStory is what will bring all the lore that we’ve developed, into the world.

You may notice NPCs throughout the world. You can talk to most of them, and they’ll recognize you (if you have a title/realm) and may tell you something interesting. Sometimes, you can choose a message to respond to the NPC.

These NPCs may tell you about quests you can complete, or offer help to you.
Realm leaders, you can now give orders to NPCs in your realm! Supply your guards with equipment, and ask them to follow you (they’ll follow you anywhere, even if you teleport), or guard a particular spot. They’ll fight monsters on their own, or you can tell them to attack a particular target.
Talk to Kyle to get some NPCs for your realm.

More NPC interactions will be coming soon.

The Blade of Light

New players* will notice a unique item in their inventory when they first join: The Blade of Light.

This blade, while only a wooden sword, is unique with an introductory message to our lore. It also has the player’s username and join date on it.

If you show your Blade of Light to the researcher at the library, he’ll tell you a little more about the lore.

*if you’re a returning player, and would like to get your Blade of Light, ask Kyle, he will give it to you. If you lose the blade, it can also be respawned for free.

First, the bad news: Our Magic plugin has been pushed back due to some major changes to the design of spells. It may not be ready until later this year, or possibly even early next year.

Now the good news: Spells are going to be much more flexible and useful! The new spells are made up of “words” – components of spells. Combine them in different ways to make unique spells.

For example, if you start with a Flame word, and combine it with a Projectile spell word, you’d get a fireball spell. If you added an Explosive word, the fireball would also explode on hit!

Words can be combined in any order, with different effects depending on where they are in the spell. Some words may be useless in some spells, while others may be extremely powerful.

Experimentation is key to finding effective spells. Once you’ve created a spell, it remains in your hotbar (so you can have up to 10 spells prepared at a time). You can also permanently save and share spells in books.

Warpstones – Wolfia’s unique fast travel system

Our new, unique fast travel system is now mostly complete! Warpstones provide a way to quickly return to previously visited locations around the Akenlands and beyond.

You can recognize warpstones as floating lapis and stone structures, often found near towns and points of interest. Activate one, and then return to it later with /last. You can only return to the last warpstone you’ve activated, unless you have a new magical item (detailed below).

You can also use /sethome at a warpstone near your home to permanently save it. Then, return to it at any time with /home. You can also use /spawn to return to the warpstone at spawn, in the City of Intwil.

While using warpstones, you may discover a unique blue dust. This Warp Dust can be used as an alternative to Lapis Lazuli, however it has a far more useful purpose. Craft four Warp Dust into a Warp Shard, and then carry it to a warpstone to transform it into a useful magic item, allowing you to save the location of the warpstone in the shard itself. You can use at any other warpstone later, or trade it to other players.

Warp Dust drops rarely when activating a warpstone (other than your home and spawn warpstone), so you will need to activate many warpstones to collect enough dust for shards. This rarity, combined with the usefulness of shards, makes it a highly desirable item in the realms of Wolfia.

Note: Custom item textures are included in our resource pack, Revival. You must have the resource pack to see the appropriate textures for the new warp items. Download the pack here, or by typing /revival on the server.

Server Update – 1.12

Minecraft 1.12 just got pushed back to Wednesday June 7th. Spigot, our server software, is expected to be available on Thursday, so we will most likely update on that day.

The update process should be pretty smooth, we’re not expecting any major changes or complications. Lots of behind-the-scenes tweaks planned though, in preparation for future plugins!

Our new custom Realms plugins are working very well so far. Here’s a quick overview of each one: Continue reading Server Update – 1.12

Five Years of Wolfia + Future Plans (March 2017 Updates)

Five years. It’s been a long time since Wolfia was first started in March 2012. While we’ve recently relaunched the server and started welcoming new players, the world has been in existence for five years now.

We’ve got plenty of new faces and some returning ones too (welcome back Walker, Agent, Mads!). Wolfia has been totally reimagined over the past few years, and is looking really good now.

Here what’s being worked on now:

I work on Intwil fairly often, mostly minor stuff. I do want to redo the Mall and Bank though. A warpstone has been added outside the Mall, in Intwil’s main square.

Gryston has also been seeing a lot of work. Vanskorch Manor is mostly finished. I will be adding a train station and cleaning up some of the landscape here.

Galvin has been doing a lot of work on Aberdeen. The Apiceedra and the new library are looking great, although there’s still a lot of stuff to be finished in Aberdeen.

Outer regions

Sholkingham (north oceans) and Runnach (south oceans) are our PvP regions (raiding and PvP allowed).

The kingdom of Yongaron (in Sholkingham) has grown, and now includes a new town, Nightfall. King CT05 is the ruler of all of Yongaron, while Jarl Flaming rules the town of Nightfall.

Meanwhile, in the south, Runnach, the Aerin Isles has fallen claim to three factions: the Thaindom of Eborin, the Kingdom of Yongaron, and the town of Grimwood.

New Server Plugins

I am developing several plugins, custom-made for the server. These are known as the Realms plugins, and help bring RPG-inspired gameplay additions to the world of Wolfia.

RealmsCore is the first one, and includes our all-new ranks system.

Here’s how it shows in chat:
The bracket color is based on the farthing that player is associated with (Waramon, Eborin, Sholkingham, Runnach).
Names can now be prefixed with titles, such as Alpha (in Waramon), Thain (in Eborin), King (in Yongaron), or any other title. These are selected by nation leaders and approved by admins.

Admins are now indicated by a +. Note that these ranks do not include permissions/powers, instead these are now given by admins, as needed. We do not have staff or builder ranks.

We are also working on custom plugins for Warpstones, Jails, Economy, Mail, and Skills/Magic. More details coming soon.

The New Exploration Era (January 2017 Updates)

We’ve been working on lots of stuff this month as we prepare for the server’s fifth anniversary in March.

The New Exploration Era

The first few months of Wolfia were known as the Exploration Era, when we were constantly exploring and founding new towns. We’re starting to see a return of this, as we explore towards the edges of the Akenland and beyond.

In Waramon, we’re looking to set up some small towns around the edges of the continent. We have the south coast, west coast, and north coast , all of which we have recently been exploring and scouting.

If anyone would like to help with these towns, let me know in-game. We could definitely use some help with new towns!

Rail System

I’ve been working on expanding the rail system to new areas, including new destinations within Waramon, and others such as the Aerin Isles. Union Station has recently been revamped, and new rail lines will be ready soon.

The Warpstone system has received a major update. You can now designate any warpstone in Wolfia to be your home warpstone (/warpstone sethome). Then, any warpstones you visit will return you home, or you can return home at any time with /home (note that /home will no longer take you to your last bed).

The entire warpstone system has actually been rebuilt, and it’s now much, much faster. You’ll also see less lag and some fancy new visual effects on warping players.

We now have a new farthing-based ranks system. This is a work-in-progress, but you’ll start to notice some new titles in front of names. The colour of the brackets and title indicates the region (green for Waramon, blue for Eborin, yellow for Runnach, red for Sholkingham). Admins can be identified by a purple symbol before their name.

This will be expanded further to include region-specific functionality. Details still need to be figured out on that.

Future Plans

Right now, the focus is on finishing up incomplete projects, and getting Chapter One (lore-driven quests) done for March 6th, the server’s fifth anniversary.

After that, there’s plenty to be done in Eborin, which I’m really excited to work on. Galvin has been doing a lot of building in Aberdeen, and so far it looks beautiful! Eborin should be reopened for the summer, and will bring the great city of Aberdeen, new quests, new unique items (maybe even E Quentor), and new areas to explore.

Server Updates, December 2016

It’s been a while since the blog has been updated. Wolfia’s been quiet, as usual during the fall, but plenty of stuff is in the works!

Minecraft 1.11

Update was completed today!

Warping & Fast Travel Changes

There is now a delay before most teleports occurs. Note that eventually it is going to be harder to get around the world quickly, as it is easy to abuse the warp system, particularly in more PvP-oriented areas. While this may inconvenience some players, it is important for keeping a good balance of difficulty to convenience. More details coming soon.

Warpstones are fully functional. You can use warpstones to save your current location, and return to the city. Warpstones can be found in several towns and other points of interest, more will be added soon.

TARDIS is still available as a more advanced alternative to warpstones and dragon travel. This will likely be the fastest and most unlimited way to fast travel, but it is by far the most expensive option.

Banmas has begun! This is our annual winter festival, taking place at Necrowolf Manor in the City of Intwil. Type /Banmas in-game to warp to it.

Advent Calendar (daily gifts) is planned to start on the weekend (likely Dec 10th). It’s later than normal this year, but we’re still doing gifts.

The scavenger hunt, and possibly quests may be added. Contests are a possibility, depending on if people are interested. Log in to the server if you want to participate!

Resource Pack – Revival

As the original creator of our recommended resource pack (SMP’s Revival) is no longer maintaining it, we have taken over the pack. An unfinished version (missing many textures) is available here:

We plan to update the pack to newer Minecraft versions soon. As the format for resource packs has changed in many ways, there’s a lot of files that need to be updated. We also need artists to design new textures that fit the existing theme of the pack. If you are interested, post a comment below, or contact Kyle on the server.

1.9 Update – Important Note about your Inventory

The update to 1.9 has just been completed. Log in with any version of Minecraft 1.9 to play!

Due to Mojang’s UUID changes, inventories may be missing or “rolled back” for some players. Additionally, you may not respawn at your bed, and possibly not even be in the same place you were before,

If you are affected by any of these, please contact Kyle immediately to get your player data fixed.

We just need to change your player data from your username, to your Minecraft UUID. It takes under 30 seconds to complete.

TARDIS will be reset in January. All current TARDISes will be lost!
This is necessary to improve performance and ensure compatibility with future TARDIS updates.
Your TARDIS registration will not be lost. You can create a new TARDIS after the reset.
If you have any items in your TARDIS you would like to keep, please remove them from the TARDIS as soon as possible.

Banmas is here!

Banmas has arrived in Wolfia! Banmas is our winter holiday, similar to Christmas. It runs throughout the month of December.

As with last year, the hub of Banmas activities is Necrowolf Manor (Kyle’s house in Intwil). You can freely warp there by typing /Banmas in-game.

Daily gifts are back! Every day, visit Necrowolf Manor for a gift. There will be a new gift every day, and each gift will only be available once. Each item is unique and crafted especially for Banmas, so don’t miss out.

The Scavenger Hunt may make a return soon. Still getting this one ready.

The Arena will receive a new winter theme as well. PvP is operational, you can join an arena battle now and fight against other players for rewards and bragging rights! There may also be special Banmas events coming to the Arena.

Other events, such as the Writing Contest and Building Contest, may or may not return, depending on how popular Banmas is. If you’re interested in these, get a bunch of people on the server who are willing to participate!
